WeAllCount

Volunteers Needed

WeAllCount, the annual Point-In-Time homeless count led by The Regional Task Force on the Homeless (RTFH), will take place throughout San Diego County on Friday, January 25, 2019, from 4:00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m. The annual count identifies the number of homeless individuals including sheltered and unsheltered, their locations, and detailed demographic information.

Join us in this regional effort

South Bay Community Services (SBCS) will once again coordinate San Diego’s South County deployment center. This is truly a regional effort. Volunteers are needed to help with the count. Roles include:

  • Engaged Counters – Engaged counters literally walk the streets to survey the homeless they see. Counters are provided a South County area to survey and are deployed in teams lead by a professional outreach worker from a specific count site during the morning of WeAllCount. For more detailed information, download flyer.
  • Shelter Interviewers – Shelter interviewers will interview homeless individuals who slept unsheltered during the night of WeAllCount in different shelters around the region. For more detailed information, download flyer.

Why this matters?

The Point-In-Time count is required annually by the U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development (HUD) and is intended to provide a snapshot of a community’s homeless population on a single night. It serves as one way to collectively understand the scope and breadth of homelessness in our nation and our individual communities.

For the San Diego region, the count helps communities and its leaders better understand the scope, impact, and potential solutions to homelessness. It also enables communities to qualify for funding that is critical to addressing the issue. The count results in approximately $16 Million in federal funding (HUD) for local homeless services that provide housing and support for the thousands of individuals and families who experience homelessness annually in our region.
