SBCS, formerly known as South Bay Community Services, has announced the development of a new $33.9 million headquarters in Chula Vista to support the agency’s expanding social services throughout San Diego County.

The new 61,000-square-foot facility will rise at 318 Fourth Ave., consolidating the agency’s multiple South County locations under one roof. The project is slated for completion in May 2025, according to the San Diego Business Journal.

Founded in 1971, SBCS has evolved from a small drop-in center for troubled teens to a robust social services organization with a staff of 500. Today, SBCS serves more than 50,000 individuals annually. Kathryn Lembo, CEO of SBCS, told the San Diego Business Journal the building will allow SBCS to serve an additionall 10,000 people a year. The consolidation will alleviate the logistical challenges currently faced by SBCS staff, many of whom are working overcrowded spaces.
