(SAN DIEGO) – Statement from SBCS (formerly South Bay Community Services) CEO Kathie Lembo:
“SBCS and our partners are providing social services to unaccompanied children and youth seeking temporary shelter at the San Diego Convention Center. In addition to social supports, we are coordinating all education, enrichment, family reunification, and religious services for the children, most of whom are girls ages 13-17.
“It is an honor to be trusted with this critical work. At this time, we are actively working alongside other social service agencies, health care providers, and local, state and federal agencies to stand up the safe, healthy, therapeutic, nurturing and enriching environment that all children deserve.

SBCS has had an overwhelming response to our request for in-kind donations at the convention center, which will be paused until further notice. We are still fundraising to be able to provide each youth a care package as they are matched with their sponsor and embark on their new journey outside of the shelter.
Donations can be made through SBCS’ website here: https://southbaycommunityservices.networkforgood.com/projects/57168-sbcs-annual-fund, and designated to the Migrant Shelter using the drop-down box, or a check can be mailed to SBCS at 430 F Street in Chula Vista, CA 91910.
