South Bay Community Services’ Our Safe Place (OSP), a welcoming community center for youth up to age 21 and their families, wants to Dance Out Loud with you!

Through “transcenDANCE” Youth Arts Project, LGBTQIA+ teens and allies are invited to work with professional artists to create an original dance theatre performance event. No experience is needed, just an open mind and a willingness to explore, share, and perform. Together, they will create a performance that explores personal narratives, identity, interconnectedness, self-love, and resilience.

This project will bring teens from throughout San Diego County together to create dances and share their stories. TranscenDANCE guides youth to transcend barriers, expand ambitions, and create positive change through dance and performance.

The program will run for nine weeks and will be hosted at youth-friendly and attended sites, three weeks at a time. The first three weeks will be at OSP Chula Vista, Wednesdays 5-7pm on February 13, 20, and 27. The program will culminate in a multi-disciplinary experience for the community including video screening, live performance, and interactive workshop elements on Friday, April 12.

One of San Diego’s most vulnerable populations, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Questioning (LGBTQ+) youth, often suffer because of non-supportive or even hostile environments in their homes, schools, and communities. We’re working to change that. Located at SBCS’ Trolley Trestle Youth Hub, OSP provides a wide variety of services for youth and their families, including support for alcohol and drug abuse, coming out, depression, family relationships, gender identity, sexual health, safe dating and transitioning.
