SBCS is now accepting applications from qualifying low-income families affected by COVID-19 for financial assistance to help past due utility bills.
This program, made possible by funding from the City of National City, will grant selected eligible families that live in National City with up to three payments of assistance for a maximum assistance of up to $1,000 per household based on need for utilities including gas, electric, phone and/or internet services assuring connectivity and student access to distance learning.
Applications will be accepted and processed on a first come, first served basis until all funds are exhausted.
To be considered for the program, you must meet each of the following qualifying factors listed below and complete and submit the application linked above.
- Must be a resident of National City
- Earn at or below 80% of the area median income (see chart on application)
- Be a family which is defined as having at least one minor dependent residing in the household
- Have a financial hardship related to COVID-19. This includes loss of income due to job loss, furlough, reduction in hours as a result of compliance with public health to self-quarantine or having to provide care for a minor child residing at home.
Applications that are completed in full, which includes submitting all required documentation, and meet all eligibility requirements will be processed. If the number of qualified applications exceeds the funding allocation, SBCS will organize a randomized lottery for all applicants that will provide an equal opportunity for selection.
