SBCS is now accepting rental assistance applications from qualifying low- to moderate-income households in National City who are homeless or at risk of experiencing homelessness.

This program is made possible by funding from the City of National City.

Applications will be accepted and processed on a first come, first served basis until all funds are exhausted.

To be considered for the program you must meet each of the following qualifying factors listed below and complete and submit the application linked above.

  1. Currently homeless with proof of homelessness and 90 day tie to the City of National City OR valid written rental or lease agreement in your name for housing located in the City of National City. A lease agreement must be for apartment, condo, townhome, single family home or mobile home. (Please note you are not eligible if you are renting from a relative.) **Please also note, program cannot assist with past due rent. We will attempt to work out an agreement with the landlord to cover current and prospective rent while applicant saves to pay off arrears.**
  2. Rent must not exceed the following:
    • Studio: $1,428
    • 1 bedroom: $1,584
    • 2 bedroom: $2,028
    • 3 bedroom: $2,820
    • 4 bedroom: $3,444
  3. Total household income (all persons over 18 years old) within the past 30 days must be at or below the following:
    • 1 person: $54,660
    • 2 person: $62,460
    • 3 person: $70,260
    • 4 person: $78,060
    • 5 person: $84,360
    • 6 person: $90,600
    • 7 person: $96,840
    • 8 person: 103,080
  4. Must not be receiving any other form of rental subsidy such as Section 8

Required Documents

Currently housed and received eviction notice:

  1. Completed Application
  2. Copy of Government Issued Identification for each Adult Household Member
  3. Copy of written Lease or Rental Agreement showing your name
  4. Copy of bank accounts, 401k, Life insurance policy or any other disclosure of assets for each Adult Household member
  5. Signed Authorization for Release of information for each Adult Household Member
  6. Eviction Notice

Currently Homeless:

  1. Completed Application
  2. Copy of Government Issued Identification for each Adult Household Member
  3. Proof of earned and unearned income
  4. Copy of bank accounts, 401k, Life insurance policy or any other disclosure of assets for each Adult Household member
  5. Proof of 90 day tie to National City
  6. Proof of homelessness
