We need volunteers! Become a Volunteer Tax Preparer

Last year SBCS’s volunteers helped more than 400 low-income neighbors keep a total of nearly $ 1 million in their pockets and in our community.

Details: Minimum age 18, flexible in-person hours, bilingual preferred, free tax law training provided and IRS certification offered. Tax volunteers are asked to commit to 4-12 hours per week for 6-14 weeks, beginning in December or January.

Get Free Tax Preparation Services Through SBCS

Available for low- to moderate-income residents (annual income of $ 57,500 or below) | Available to low to moderate income residents (annual income of $ 57,500 or less)

You may be entitled to a refund on your taxes. By claiming the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC), the Child Tax Credit and other important credits, you may receive a refund to help in your financial security. SBCS ‘Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) is a program of the Community Action Partnership (CAP) in partnership with the County of San Diego, United Way of San Diego and the Internal Revenue Service.

Free tax preparation services will be available beginning February 1, 2022. Services will be offered on a walk-in basis or make an appointment by calling 2-1-1. To get help filing your taxes, please come to SBCS (430 F Street, Chula Vista, CA 91910) with all documents listed below between the hours of 9 am and 3:30 pm on Tuesday, Thursday, or Fridays February 1 to April 15 , 2022.

What to bring:

  • Proof of identification
  • Social Security cards for you, your spouse and dependents and / or a Social Security number verification letter issued by the Social Security Administration. No exceptions.
  • Wage and earning statement (s) Form W-2, W-2G, 1099-R, from all employers.
  • Birth dates for you, your spouse and dependents on the tax return.
  • Bank routing numbers and account numbers for direct deposit.
  • Interest and dividend statements from banks (Forms 1099).
  • A copy of last year’s federal and state returns if available.
  • Total paid for daycare provider and the daycare provider’s tax identifying number (the provider’s Social Security number or the provider’s business Employer Identification Number
  • If you are married filing jointly, both spouses must be available to sign all forms. No exceptions.

Bring the following:

  • ID
  • Your Social Security card, that of your spouse and dependents, or a letter from the Social Security Administration verifying the insurance number. No exceptions will be made.
  • Forms W-2, W-2G, 1099-R, from all your employers.
  • Your date of birth, that of your spouse and that of your dependents that will be included in the tax return.
  • Check canceled with number of bank accounts for direct deposit.
  • Statement of interest, dividends, Forms 1099.
  • A copy of your state and federal tax returns, if you have them available.
  • The total you paid for childcare and the daycare tax identification number (the provider’s social security number or employer identification number)
  • If you are married filing taxes together, both spouses must be present to sign all forms. Without exceptions.
